On the road to success with BASA, with an eye on future growth

Route 1 Print was founded in 2012 as a company of the Bluetree Group and is one of the largest printing companies in the UK today.

It is rated as one of the top 100 companies in the UK with the fastest growing sales revenue in the last three years. – and is ramping up to maximise their potential with new investments in automation and the latest technological developments from the best companies in the world.

Satisfied customers who rely on high-quality products and fast service are as much a prerequisite for this result, as satisfied employees. Modern workplaces, automation and "state-of-the-art" technologies bring physical relief and exciting technology into everyday working life.

This is also reflected in the latest investment in the fully automatic BASA 3 jogging system from BaumannWohlenberg, which optimises the entire cutting process and connects 3 high speed cutters together.
After looking at competing manufacturers the BaumannWohlenberg system won out due to its format size and the large variety of materials it could automatically process.

The system offers touch screen simplicity, as well as both in-line and off-line solutions. The machine can handle all types of papers (upwards 60gsm), several types of label papers, cardboard (up to 600 gsm), foils, certain types of plastics, and perforated and embossed paper and cardboard.  Furthermore, a carton inserter, de-stacking unit and a counting device is available for the BASA so that a myriad of different printed products can be processed automatically and sorted accordingly.

Last but not least the well-known good support provided by Friedheim International was another important factor in this decision. The good planning and the support by the partnership of Bluetree, Friedheim and Baumann ensured a smooth installation.

Route 1 Print are exceedingly happy with the BASA 3 in the way it enables them to reutilise their skilled workers into less labour intensive work, taking full advantage of their expertise and training in other processes.

It’s a very important installation for all, Print 1 Route, Friedheim and Baumann and having remote access to the installation, it gave the safety net that a company like Bluetree have come to expect from such an investment. Working with them has been a real pleasure, but the real pleasure is watching the BASA in operation, as it’s a thing of beauty.

BASS - Always a cut ahead

BASS - Always a cut ahead - BASS - Baumann automatic cutting system

Following the completely automated jogging process we have now also automated the cutting process.

BASS is the name of the latest innovation developed by Baumann. BASS stands for Baumann Automatic Cutting System and does exactly what its name implies.
For all products that have the same cross-sectional layout, the integrated robot takes over the tasks of the operator. Before the cut, the layer is positioned at the back gauge and held in position until the clamping bar fixes the layer.
After the cut, he takes over the alignment of the layer and then transports it to the next processing machine. This feeding can be done either to the right, left or, in alternation, to the right and left.

In practice, for example when cutting labels, two die cutters can simultaneously be fed -automatically and unmanned - meaning that two orders can be processed at the same time - round the clock, in 3-shifts. In combination with the fully automatic jogging system BASA, our multi buffers and additional processing systems, it allows to further increase efficiency.

In addition to the higher number of processed orders, the constant processing process speaks for itself, increasing efficiency and improving the planning of orders, thus increasing customer satisfaction.
Further advantages include the physical and temporal relief of the skilled workers, as well as modern, future-oriented workplace designs. The users do not have to be doctors or developers. The programming of the robot is simple and fast and is carried out by the operator via an additional control panel, in just a few steps. This guarantees minimum set-up times, even with changing orders.

If required, the automatic cutting system can of course also be operated manually as a "simple" cutting machine. For this purpose, the robot is simply moved to its stop position above the machine, thus lying outside the working area of the operator.

Following the completely automated jogging process with the Baumann BASA system, baumannwohlenberg has now also further automated the cutting process. Baumann thus strengthens again its position among the leaders in innovation and technology for cutting processes and logistics in the graphic industry sector.
